The walking sires on the ranch have all been used with specific visions in mind. Whether they run on our commercial herd, or purebred females, the walking bulls are pivitol in the quality of the herd, and are selected as such. Most of the bulls are bred to the commercial and purebred herd alike, so every year the steers and commercial heifers are loaded with the same quality of pedigree as our sale bulls, and our cattle that are taken out on the show road. The bulls are selected based on their phenotype; their muscling, feet, legs, overall masculinity, and their soundness of movement. Their pedigree absolutely needs a powerful mother cow. We firmly believe that a bull is only as good as his mother. A tremendous cow will raise an outstanding herd sire, and quality will carry down for all involved in the process, from producer to consumer. All our herd sires need exceptional testicular development at an early age, to ensure sufficient testicle quality and growth in the bull pen each spring. Of course, calving ease as well as performance is the piece that completes the package, as we rely just as heavily on our steer crop each year as our customers do.
